A new name for the Parish!
Welcome to the Parish of Greater Herne...
To reflect the growing communities served by St Martin-in-Herne and St Peter's, Greenhill, the parish has sought to change its name so that all the areas - new and old - are included. This has been approved and signed into existence by the Bishop of Dover.
Before the town of Herne Bay was developed in the nineteenth century, Herne was the original settlement with St Martin's at its centre. Today, we serve a growing population of over 16,000 from Talmead (by Sainsbury's) in the east, along the border with Herne Bay town through Eddington, and over to Greenhill in the west, with Broomfield and the village of Herne to the south. And so, welcome to Greater Herne!
