St Martin's in Herne with St Peter's, Greenhill

ST MARTIN-IN-HERNE CHURCH

The Parish of St Martin's in Herne and St Peter's Greenhill, is situated within the Deanery of Reculver (serving Herne Bay and Whitstable) in the diocese of Canterbury, and is located some six miles north of the city.  The total population is now estimated to be some 16,000, several hundred new homes having been planned and/or built within the parish boundary.

Transport Links.  We enjoy excellent links to London, rapid access to Margate/Ramsgate and are only a 40-minute drive away from the Port of Dover.  Herne Bay has high-speed rail links with London, Thanet and Dover, whilst Herne and Greenhill have regular bus links to Canterbury, Whitstable and Thanet.

St Martin's is in the centre of Herne.  The building dates from the 14th century and is a large, handsome structure consisting of three aisles, three chancels and a tower.  There are two parking spaces next to the church and a pay and display car park near the church.

We enjoy good relations with our Church of England Schools: Herne Infant's and Herne Junior's, often working together with Strode Park Foundation (situated in Herne), Herne & Broomfield Parish Council and other local community groups and providers.  Therefore, although Herne can no longer be described as a village, it has a village community feel about it!
