St Martin's in Herne with St Peter's, Greenhill

Our Churches

The Parish of Greater Herne has two places of worship. The medieval church of St Martin's has been at the centre of the community for over 700 years, and continues to be a place for worship and prayer today, with a story to discover... Rumours of smugglers' tunnels, the burial place of a customs officer shot by a smuggling gang, the memorial to a Bishop burnt at the stake who was once vicar here!

In Greenhill, St Peter's was built in 1960 to serve the community then being built in the west of the parish, and continues today to be a community building hosting local groups and outreach activities, as well as monthly worship services.
